Katya Kabanova returns to London
Opera Holland Park, London
There is much sadness and Slav tenderness and depth of feeling in it. May I find the right way to express it with equal intensity! (Leoš Janáček, 1920)
Leoš Janáček’s Katya Kabanova – the intimate and lyrical portrait of a lonely woman and also a personal tragedy – makes a welcome return to Opera Holland Park this season in Olivia Fuchs’ highly-regarded 2009 production, which was hailed at the time as ‘not simply the highlight of Holland Park’s season, [but] the highlight of the summer’ (Anna Picard, Independent).
Performances take place on 15, 19, 21, 26 and 28 July. Sian Edwards conducts the City of London Sinfonietta, with Julia Sporsén in the title role.
