Wolfgang Rihm’s 1978 opera Jakob Lenz comes to the English National Opera in a new translation by Richard Stokes this Tuesday.
Sam Brown directs the new production at the Hampstead Theatre.

This Saturday, BBC Radio 3 broadcasts the complete recording of Luke Bedford’s opera Seven Angels (video intro here). Nicholas Collon conducts the BCMG in a production by the Opera Group directed by John Fulljames last summer.

In a poignant if unforeseen comment on the financial crisis in Greece, Kurt Weill’s opera The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny comes to the Megaron in Athens tonight in the acclaimed production from Madrid’s Teatro Real.
Art mirrors reality once again. The Madrid performance was accompanied by a public sector strike, with uncollected rubbish lying in the streets of the capital.
